What is Baptism?

Baptism is a symbol acted out in obedience to Christ that symbolizes internal salvation. Our Lord gave the church this ordinance of baptism prior to His ascension when He commanded: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” (Mt. 28:19)

An identification with Jesus Christ, His message and His people. A symbol or picture, acted out in an open and public manner, that shows what has happened in the spiritual life of the Christian. An act of obedience to Christ by those who have placed their faith in Him for salvation and have entrusted their lives to Him as Lord.
